…Urges Catholics to pray the rosary
Pope Francis has called on Catholics to pray the rosary, especially amid what he called the “looming threats” to the world. “In her apparitions, the Holy Father said, “Our Lady often exhorted the recitation of the rosary, especially in the face of looming threats to the world.”
He made this call on Wednesday, October 7, at the Vatican. It was not clear what His Holiness really meant by the "looming threats." Nor did he give details. “Even today," he continued, "in this time of the pandemic, it is necessary to hold the rosary in our hands and pray for us, our loved ones and all people.” He prayed that through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Lord might make our life, in the midst of this time of the pandemic, a loving service to all our brothers and sisters, especially those who feel abandoned and unprotected.
He exhorted the faithful to pray the rosary and carry it in their hands or pockets because, according to him, the rosary is the most beautiful prayer that we can offer to the Virgin Mary. “It is a contemplation of the stages of the life of Jesus the Saviour with his Mother Mary and it is a weapon that protects us from evil and temptation,” he said.

On Covid-19 and its likely impact on future generations, Pope admitted that the pandemic was changing the world and putting everyone in crisis, adding that it was impossible to emerge from a crisis the same way as it was before. “Either we come out better or we come out worse,” he said. And how we emerged would depend on the decisions we made during the crisis. Worrying about the kind of lifestyle that would be bequeathed to future generations, the Holy Father warned that “we need to stop thinking only of ourselves or the present, and look to the future in the perspective of a humanity which wants to remain in connection with creation.” He said “We must take responsibility for the future, preparing the ground so that others can work it. This is the mentality that we have to elaborate in the pandemic, according to the great principle that one does not emerge from a crisis the same as before. We come out worse or better, but never the same,” he maintained.
On those who grieve because they have lost loved ones to the pandemic, Pope said, they can best deal with their grief only by trying to remain close together, in silence, doing everything possible to be together. He said his heart was with all the people of God who were suffering, with a humanity that had to endure this pandemic and, on the other hand, which had the courage to strive forward. God understands their language. He called for a change of attitude towards social economic system of the world, saying “we cannot continue with the same economic system which has injustice sewn into its foundations.”
