It was a strange spiritual occurrence on Friday, September 5, as a Catholic priest shares a shocking experience of witnessing first hand consecrated wine during holy Mass turned real blood!
In a video that is now viral, the priest, whose identity could not be ascertained at the time of this report, narrated how he saw the wine inside the Eucharistic cup became real Blood of Jesus Christ, after distributing holy communion to his communicants.
Sharing the experience, the priest said, "During the Mass, during the consecration, everything went well. The wine (was) poured into the chalice, as it ought to be; nothing inside the wine, nothing! However, after distributing communion, I came back to the altar to purify the vessels and the chalice, and something strange occurred. The Blood of Jesus was discovered inside the wine."
As to whether it was indeed real blood he saw, the priest said, "Of course, after consecration it is now Blood of Jesus Christ. But truly, I saw the Blood of Jesus Christ inside the chalice. I was confused. I had to call a sacristan to see it. She saw it and she too was confused. It was so clear that this thing is blood, real, physical."
What He Did Next?
Although he did not have recourse to any of his superior or ecclesiastical authority for scrutiny or validation, he said he quickly consumed the "blood" to avoid undue curiosity. "I didn't want any drama, because people were looking at me, I just drank it immediately! I didn't want drama or social media publicity.... no no no", he said.
Why Making a Video?
According to him, he had to make a short video to share what he described as ''a strange but a privileged and humbling experience.'' "I have to make a video to let people know how I feel", adding, "Right now, my heart is heavy. I feel so humbled for this elevated spiritual sanctified experience of seeing the Blood of Jesus. I know some people may want to doubt, but I have a witness, a sacristan."
The Priest narrating his experienceAnother reason, he said for making the video was to let people know that the holy Mass is real. "It is not something you joke with. Please something is happening. And I want to tell my fellow priests, please when you celebrate the Mass, don't joke with it," adding that he had never had such an experience before. "I have never seen it (wine becoming blood) before all my life. This is my 12th year, going 13th year, as a priest. I have never seen it before. I just want you to believe that as Catholic, what we do at the Mass is not ordinary", he appealed.
What the Catholic Church teaches
The Catholic Church teaches and firmly believes that during the holy Mass, after prayer of consecration of gifts, the bread and wine offered undergo what is known as ''transubstantiation'', the changing of one form into another, which is made possible through the power in the words of Jesus Christ at the Last Supper (Mat. 26:26-28, cf. John 6:53-56) and the action of the Holy Spirit. The bread and wine thus become the Real Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, of Jesus Christ.
Similar Occurrences In History
It is not the first time, however, a miraculous occurrence of consecrated wine turning into Real Blood is being reported. History is replete with such testimonies.
One of the earliest of such miracles occurred In 8th century when Basilian monk who doubtful about the Real Presence, witnessed the consecrated host and wine change into human flesh and blood during Mass.
In 1263 AD, a Bohemian priest, Peter of Prague, experienced blood appearing on the corporal (communion cloth) during Mass. This incident strengthened his faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
The Miracle of Bagno di Romagna in 1412 where a priest named Fr. Lazarro saw the wine in the chalice transform into blood, similar to current testimony.
And, of recent in 1992, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a host that had fallen on the ground was reportedly tested to have shown human DNA.
It all goes to underline the mystery of the Christian faith, especially in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
